Senior Developer Advocacy Engineer | UK | Remote
Explicitly uses AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Cursor, GPT-Codex, etc.) for rapid prototyping while stressing engineering judgment—supports rapid AI-driven workflows but not ‘vibe coding’ alone.
About the Role
Senior Developer Advocacy Engineer building the open-source Interactive Learning Plugin for Grafana. Ship production product code that improves in-product learning experiences, leverages AI-assisted development workflows, and supports observability-driven instrumentation and on-call ownership.
Job Description
Role
Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Developer Advocacy Engineer (UK, fully remote) to build and maintain the open-source Interactive Learning Plugin and its learning content. This engineer will ship product code used in Grafana Cloud and Grafana OSS, enable contribution workflows for non-engineers, and apply AI-assisted development practices within a secure, production-grade engineering process.
Key Responsibilities
- Build delightful interactive learning experiences inside Grafana and ship features that make learning obvious, smooth, and scalable.
- Improve end-to-end learner flows from onboarding to completion, including progress and completion tracking.
- Enable contribution and authoring workflows to let many contributors safely create, iterate on, and improve learning content.
- Instrument learning flows with metrics, logs, and traces to understand what’s working, failing, and where learners get stuck.
- Treat observability as a product principle and build fast feedback loops to keep production issues shallow.
- Ship fast using AI-driven development tools (agent-based workflows) while applying strong engineering judgment, verification, and testing.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and own production runbooks and incident follow-up when needed.
- Contribute ~20% communication work: clear docs, design notes, PR descriptions, demos, and explaining decisions to audiences.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production-grade changes.
- Experience with AI-assisted or agentic development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and an ability to describe scoping, iteration, validation, and test approaches.
- Familiarity with Grafana and observability practices (dashboards, monitoring, troubleshooting, on-call workflows).
- Comfortable with instrumentation, metrics/logs/traces, and using observability data to improve user experiences.
- Ability to design authoring workflows that enable non-engineer contributors and to build trustworthy progress/completion tracking.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and follow DevOps ownership practices.
Nice-to-haves / Bonus
- Meaningful open source contribution or maintainer experience.
- Full-stack experience (strong frontend-only or backend-only profiles also welcome).
- TypeScript and/or Go experience.
- Kubernetes familiarity.
- Experience with Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, OpenTelemetry or the broader observability ecosystem.
Compensation & Benefits
- UK base compensation range: GBP 91,755 - GBP 110,106 (country-specific; actual compensation varies by level and experience).
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- Company-funded AI coding assistant usage budget.
- 100% remote work with a global culture; in-person onboarding.
- Global annual leave policy: 30 days per annum (3 days reserved for Grafana Shutdown Days).
- Career growth pathways and other standard company-wide benefits.
