Role
SSOE is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in its Advanced Technology division to lead electrical systems design for complex semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing facilities. The role focuses on delivering power distribution, grounding, lighting, and mission-critical electrical systems, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating across disciplines to meet project scope, schedule, and quality targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design of power distribution systems, lighting layouts, and grounding systems for semiconductor and high-tech facilities.
- Perform load calculations, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies using EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM PowerTools.
- Develop electrical construction documents, including one-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit routing plans, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA and other applicable codes; serve as the technical reference for code interpretation.
- Coordinate electrical systems integration with mechanical, process, and structural disciplines through BIM modeling and cross-functional reviews.
- Evaluate designs for energy efficiency and operational performance; recommend optimization strategies.
- Apply field verification and troubleshooting to resolve design-to-field discrepancies and support construction (RFIs, submittals, site visits).
- Lead design reviews, quality assurance checks, and prepare engineering calculations and technical submittals.
- Serve as a primary technical contact for clients and collaborate with contractors during construction.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers; contribute to knowledge sharing and reusable design standards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, or semiconductor facility design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or active pursuit with a clear path to licensure.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for electrical design.
- Familiarity with NEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA codes and standards.
- Field verification experience and ability to resolve design-to-field discrepancies.
- Strong communication skills for presenting technical content and managing client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM PowerTools for power system analysis and arc flash studies.
- Prior experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or advanced high-tech facility design.
- Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience.
- Additional certifications such as LEED AP or CEM are a plus.
