Role
Senior Forward Deployed Applied Scientist focused on architecting and delivering production-grade agentic AI systems and multi-agent workflows for DigitalOcean customers. The role combines hands-on prototyping, production hardening, reliability engineering, and direct customer integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement multi-agent workflows, autonomous reasoning loops, and tool-augmented LLM architectures for real-world customer problems.
- Prototype and harden agentic frameworks and execution graphs (e.g., LangGraph, AutoGen) for enterprise production, including stateful memory retention.
- Embed with customers (CTOs, AI engineering leads) to translate ambiguous requirements into deterministic, high-performance agentic solutions.
- Build reusable evaluation and safety guardrails (Evals frameworks) to monitor reasoning precision, execution security, latency, and cost-efficiency.
- Provide strategic feedback to AI/ML product teams to convert field deployment friction into platform improvements.
Travel & Hours
- Ability to travel up to 30% for customer engagements, workshops, and conferences.
- Must consistently overlap with North American business hours, including availability until at least noon Eastern Time.
Minimum Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in Applied AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science.
- Proven experience building multi-agent orchestration engines, tool-use/function-calling pipelines, MCP, structured outputs, dynamic planning, and persistent memory models.
- Strong production Python and systems engineering skills (Pydantic, FastAPI, Asyncio, PyTorch).
- Customer-facing engineering mindset with strong technical communication and the ability to articulate AI trade-offs to engineering and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related technical field.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), distributed training tools, transformers, and state space models.
- Research experience (publications, patents) and familiarity with latest LLM/VLM and agentic research.
- Experience collaborating with customers, model vendors, or partners on benchmarking, optimization, fine-tuning, or launch readiness.
