Role
Leidos is hiring a Senior Software Developer to support the UK National Airspace System Replacement Product Delivery Team (UK NASR PDT). The role focuses on building and sustaining real-time, high-availability, safety-critical software that supports national airspace operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software for real-time, high-availability systems.
- Lead software development activities and collaborate within an engineering team.
- Analyze complex system requirements and translate them into maintainable software designs.
- Apply sound software engineering principles to ensure reliability, fault tolerance, reusability, and maintainability.
- Mentor and lead junior developers; influence technical direction and development processes.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, release planning, sprint reviews).
- Develop, tune, document, and deploy automation scripts across development, test, and production environments.
- Promote code reuse, cross-program collaboration, and sustainable development practices.
- Support system integration activities, including hardware and low-level communications interfaces.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 8–12 years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; US citizenship required.
- Strong object-oriented programming experience and proficiency in C and/or C++.
- Experience developing real-time, multi-threaded, high-availability systems.
- Experience with Linux environments (Red Hat), virtual machines, and hypervisors.
- Experience with low-level communications protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP).
- Experience with hardware or complex system integration and lifecycle concepts.
- Experience with source control and configuration management tools.
- Strong understanding of modern software development principles and best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to plan and prioritize work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ada.
- Experience with test automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with AI coding tools and agents (e.g., Codex, Claude) and Agentic/AI-assisted development workflows, including vibe coding.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled CI/CD, testing, code review, and DevSecOps practices.
- Understanding of AI-generated code validation, security, and responsible use.
Location & Schedule
- U.S.-based position located in Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor, NJ.
- Balanced 50% hybrid schedule (2–3 days in the office per week).
Salary & Benefits
- Pay Range: $107,900.00 - $195,050.00.
