About the Role
Senior Software Engineer role to design, build, and operate IKEA’s next-generation Observability Core platform across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, driving automation, reliability, and developer experience while using AI tools daily. The role focuses on evolving a Kubernetes-based observability stack (Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, OpenTelemetry) and building automated platform workflows with IaC and CI/CD.

Role
Senior Software Engineer on the Observability Core Platform Engineering team, responsible for research, development, operation and automation of IKEA’s next-generation observability platform supporting 300+ product teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a Kubernetes-based Observability platform running in hybrid infrastructure (on-prem + GCP/Alicloud).
- Build fully automated platform workflows using Terraform, Argo CD, Helm and GitHub Actions, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Operate and improve Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir and OpenTelemetry-based observability for critical services at large scale.
- Collaborate with platform and product teams to deliver new features and a strong developer experience.
- Research upstream observability community developments and adopt relevant improvements.
- Act as an SRE/Observability partner to product teams to drive reliability, automation and tooling, continuously leveraging AI tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years as a systems/software engineer.
- Strong experience in Python or Go and comfortable working on platform code and tooling.
- Hands-on experience implementing observability solutions and modern SRE/observability practices.
- Deep experience with Kubernetes and running services in hybrid cloud environments (GCP and/or Alicloud; Azure is referenced in the platform context).
- Hands-on skills with Grafana, Mimir, Tempo, Loki and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and GitOps workflows (Terraform, Argo CD, Helm, GitHub Actions) and CI/CD practices.
- Comfortable working in Agile teams using Jira and Git.
- Creative, inquisitive mindset and willingness to research and share knowledge.
- Regular use of AI/ML/LLM tools and “vibe coding” to support design, debugging and development.
Work Environment & Team
- Small, dedicated team focused on building and running an open-source-based observability platform at large scale (supports ~300 teams, handling large log/trace and metric volumes).

Location & Logistics
- Role based in Bengaluru (Bangalore). Candidates should be local to the location; IKEA does not provide relocation support for this recruitment.
