Role
Senior Staff UX Designer on the Interaction Design team designing user interfaces and human-robot interactions across Boston Dynamics’ robotics portfolio. Lead major design initiatives spanning robot interactions, behavior authoring, fleet management interfaces, mixed reality, and responsive 2D experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design of complex user experiences across robotic platforms, including control interfaces, configuration tools, monitoring dashboards, and field service applications.
- Translate ambiguous or high-level requirements into cohesive and scalable design strategies and execution plans.
- Conduct and lead advanced user research (contextual inquiry, usability studies, field engagement) and incorporate end-user feedback.
- Collaborate with product leadership, engineering, and domain experts to align user needs, technical architecture, and business objectives.
- Define and evolve the design system, interaction models, HRI profiles, and UI standards for robotic product interfaces.
- Advocate for accessibility, responsive design, safety-critical interaction, and data visualization best practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level designers and provide guidance on UX craft, processes, and strategy.
- Influence cross-functional decisions through presentation of evidence and design rationale.
- Drive process improvements for partner enablement, certification, and technical standards to scale programs globally.
Requirements
- Expert proficiency with UX/UI design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision).
- Familiarity with “vibe coding” tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
- Deep understanding of human-centered design, interaction architecture, accessibility, and usability testing, particularly in complex or high-stakes environments.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating system-level interface strategy, user flows, and HMI design for mobile and desktop (wearables a plus).
- Experience driving discovery, facilitating workshops, synthesizing complex inputs, and prototyping/experimenting rapidly.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to influence engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
- Experience with physical hardware interfaces, real-time systems, or industrial environments preferred.
Travel & Location
- Travel to partner sites and regions required (no more than 10%).
- Role is expected to be onsite.

Compensation
- Base pay range: $155,000.00–$185,000.00 (posted per Massachusetts law).
