Job Description
Role
The Senior Web Developer is a hands-on technical lead responsible for planning, building, launching, and optimizing websites across a portfolio of agency clients. The role requires architectural thinking, strong execution across front-end and back-end work, and active use of AI tools in the development workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Own web development end-to-end for multiple active clients: planning, implementation, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
- Build front-end UIs and responsive, mobile-first experiences using modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Implement back-end integrations, server-side logic, REST APIs, and database interactions; ensure security best practices.
- Optimize performance (Core Web Vitals, caching, lazy loading, image handling) and accessibility.
- Deploy and maintain staging environments, deployment workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate with designers, digital marketers, and account managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Mentor junior developers, enforce code quality standards, and raise delivery standards across the agency.
- Evaluate and recommend the right technology approach (Astro vs. WordPress vs. headless) and justify choices to non-technical stakeholders.
- Use AI tools actively for code generation, debugging, documentation, accessibility review, and workflow acceleration.
Requirements
- Several years of professional web development experience; agency or digital marketing experience strongly preferred.
- Strong front-end skills: modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive/mobile-first design.
- Hands-on experience with Astro (component-based architecture, static site generation, content collections, production deployments).
- Proficiency with WordPress, including custom theme development, plugin integration, and performance optimization.
- Back-end development experience: server-side logic, REST APIs, database management, and security practices.
- Demonstrable, active use of AI tools in daily development work; able to explain how AI is used in current workflows.
- Experience with Git, deployment workflows, staging environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong performance optimization and accessibility skills.
- Clear communicator capable of explaining technical decisions to account managers, clients, and leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
