Role
Amazon Devices Software & Services is hiring a Software Development Engineer II to design, build, and operate core software that powers AI-driven, agentic experiences across Alexa, Fire TV, mobile, and wearable surfaces. You will work on model and tool integrations, the agent execution loop, evaluation and quality pipelines, and the APIs product teams consume. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on reliability, safety, performance, and developer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and operate scalable backend services, libraries, and APIs that power AI/LLM-driven features.
- Integrate and harden model providers, tools, and agent capabilities behind versioned interfaces with clear failure behavior, observability, and cost/latency awareness.
- Implement evaluation, regression, and quality tooling to measure and gate AI behavior.
- Apply security-conscious, fail-closed design for systems handling credentials, user data, tool execution, and autonomous actions.
- Prototype and deploy features that leverage multimodal inputs (camera, audio, documents) for proactive, context-aware experiences across surfaces.
- Work with AI coding assistants and agentic workflows: decompose tasks for agents, review AI-generated code, and maintain high engineering rigor with automated testing and code review.
- Collaborate across teams and mentor other engineers while contributing to system architecture and design decisions.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years contributing to systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with professional software engineering best practices across the full development lifecycle: coding standards, architectures, code reviews, source control, continuous deployment, testing, and operational excellence.
- Familiarity with Agentic Software Development using industry tools such as Kiro, Claude, and Cursor.
Team & Environment
You will join a platform team building shared AI/agent infrastructure used across multiple products. The team emphasizes correctness, safety, developer experience, test-first practices, adversarial review, and reusable core components. Engineers on the team work directly on production code, design, and mentoring while operating at high velocity with automated quality gates.
