Role
Amazon Devices is hiring a Software Development Engineer II to build core AI/agent infrastructure used across device surfaces (Alexa, Fire TV, mobile, wearables). You will design, implement, test, and operate components that integrate model providers, agent capabilities, evaluation pipelines, and APIs that product teams consume.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and operate scalable backend services and libraries that power AI/LLM-driven features.
- Integrate and harden model providers, tools, and agent capabilities behind versioned interfaces with sensible failure behavior, observability, and cost/latency awareness.
- Implement evaluation, regression, and quality tooling to measure and gate AI behavior.
- Apply security-conscious, fail-closed design for components handling credentials, user data, tool execution, or autonomous actions.
- Work with AI coding assistants and agentic workflows: decompose tasks for agents, review AI-generated code, and maintain engineering rigor with automated tests and code review.
- Collaborate across teams to prototype, test, and deploy multimodal features that span devices and maintain cross-surface continuity.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems (reliability and scaling).
- 1+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- 1+ years of Object-Oriented Design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience programming with at least one programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years across full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
Team and Environment
- Platform team focused on shared AI/agent infrastructure; emphasizes correctness, safety, developer experience, test-first development, adversarial review, and reusable core components.
- Engineers use AI-native development workflows, including AI coding assistants and agentic workflows, with high velocity and strict automated testing and code review gates.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range listed: 143,700.00 - 194,400.00 USD annually (final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location).
- Package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
