Role
Software Engineer (1-year contract, hybrid in Sydney) responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting production trading and analytics applications. The role works directly with traders and operations to deliver order flow, position and risk views, trade analytics, reporting, and order routing functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and support Python back-end services and React/TypeScript front-end applications covering order flow, position/risk views, trade analytics, and reporting.
- Maintain and extend FIX connectivity and order routing integrations across APAC venues; support Fidessa/Triton configuration, session management, and user troubleshooting.
- Design and own PostgreSQL and MSSQL schemas that reflect trading domain models; write and tune queries for real-time and end-of-day analytics; coordinate database work with cross-border teams.
- Translate trader and operations requirements into specifications, present design decisions to stakeholders, and communicate incident impact and resolution clearly.
- Apply a disciplined Test-Driven Development (TDD) cycle: specification sign-off, implementation plan sign-off, automated tests written before code, and peer review of all output (including LLM-generated code).
- Use Copilot and LLMs as a disciplined co-author within the defined development and review cycle; unstructured “vibe coding” is explicitly not accepted.
Requirements
- Minimum: 1 year hands-on trading application development experience (applicants are asked to specify years of experience).
- Python: 1 year (Required).
- React/TypeScript: 1 year (Required).
- Experience with FIX connectivity, order routing, and trading domain concepts (OrderRouter, RiskGate, MarketDataFeed, Strategy, OMS) is expected.
- Experience designing and tuning PostgreSQL and MSSQL schemas and queries for analytics and real-time workflows.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
