Role
Wells Fargo seeks a Software Engineering Manager to manage and develop engineering teams and less-experienced managers. The manager will serve as the technical representative for products, ensure adherence to platform architecture and non-functional requirements, and drive cloud readiness, application modernization, and data strategy. The role requires collaboration with architects, product managers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to remove impediments and deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop individual contributors and junior managers; hire and mentor talent.
- Provide technical leadership, perform code reviews, and work in the codebase to ensure quality and alignment to technical direction.
- Ensure adherence to Banking Platform Architecture, security, stability, scalability, and compliance requirements.
- Drive cloud readiness, application migration paths, and modernization (including cloud databases and IaaS/IaC patterns).
- Engage with architects and product owners to influence technical requirements and product roadmaps.
- Act as escalation partner for scrum masters and teams; remove impediments and promote continuous improvement and DevOps/Agile practices.
- Interact with third-party vendors and manage allocation of people and financial resources for engineering efforts.
- Oversee testing, deployment activities, and migration of application code to production.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent through work, training, military, education).
- 2+ years of leadership experience.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience translating business requirements into technical implementation and supporting SDLC activities.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong Java concepts and Spring implementation experience; experience with Java microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience with cloud databases (preferably Azure), OpenShift, and Kubernetes.
- Applied understanding of AI/ML methodologies, model lifecycle, inference patterns, prompt engineering basics, and vibe coding.
- Familiarity with Cloud Adoption Frameworks, Well-Architected Framework, Infrastructure as Code, AIOps, and automation.
- Experience leading medium to large projects and working with both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
Job Expectations / Responsibilities (additional)
- Provide functional and technical consultation in application development and produce technical documentation and user guides.
- Verify program logic through testing, debugging, and participation in overall systems testing.
- Drive continual service improvement and innovation in cloud and AI product areas.
