Role
Senior Creative Technologist (6-month contract, Remote) responsible for shaping the technical vision and maintaining the coded design system. The role blends front-end engineering with design principles to deliver accessible, reusable UI components and to enable rapid prototyping across digital products.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain responsive, accessible, and reusable UI components (e.g., React, Web Components) that meet design specifications and usability standards.
- Support and evolve the component library, ensuring pixel-perfect, consistent implementations and clear documentation.
- Collaborate with front-end feature teams to ensure accurate implementation of component specifications and resolve discrepancies between design and code.
- Enable rapid prototyping and experimentation to test design concepts and iterate on interaction patterns and component behaviors.
- Maintain design system documentation and work with designers and technical writers on guidelines and best practices.
- Ensure components meet accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) and are optimized for performance across devices.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and user testing; advocate for user experience while balancing technical feasibility.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and design system best practices; explore tools (including AI-enabled workflows) to improve efficiency.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in front-end development or UX engineering.
- Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks.
- Experience working on or within a design system team and familiarity with component-driven design methodologies.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
- Experience with version control systems and design handoff processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior enterprise experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
- Experience using AI-enabled workflows to build and validate code and accelerate development.
- Basic understanding of CMS integrations and web performance optimization techniques.
