Role
Senior Director of Software Engineering within Corporate Technology – HR & Benefits Technology, owning technology strategy and delivery across Global Benefits, Global Mobility, Business Travel, and Expatriate Payroll & Tax. Lead cross-functional engineering teams, vendor ecosystems, and enterprise migrations from legacy HR systems to modern cloud-native architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technology strategy and delivery for benefits, mobility, travel, and expatriate payroll & tax across multiple jurisdictions and currencies.
- Manage a 125+ global benefits vendor ecosystem, including vendor onboarding, application ownership, risk and performance governance.
- Drive migration of U.S. pension from legacy PeopleSoft to modern, secure, cloud-native technologies with strong data integrity and controls.
- Deliver end-to-end integration and automation of benefits data into and out of payroll to enable touchless payroll across countries and regulatory regimes.
- Set engineering standards across custom full-stack development, serverless and cloud-native designs on AWS, Infrastructure as Code, Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD.
- Embed security- and compliance-by-design into pipelines (automated controls, security scanning, policy-as-code) to support SOX, tax/statutory reporting, data residency, segregation of duties, and access management.
- Lead adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering, AI-assisted development (“vibe coding”), and MCP-based conversational interfaces with governance and guardrails.
- Interface with senior leadership to align on risk, regulatory, operational, cost, and modernization priorities.
- Hire, develop, and scale large cross-functional engineering teams and set portfolio-level standards for release governance, resilience, testing, and incident response.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with 10+ years applied experience and 5+ years leading technologists.
- Deep experience delivering technology across benefits, payroll, mobility, or HR domains in large, regulated global enterprises.
- Hands-on and leadership expertise in Java and Python on AWS, including serverless and cloud-native patterns.
- Full-stack capability including modern front-end development (e.g., React, TypeScript) and API-first design (GraphQL, REST).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions), with embedded security and controls.
- Proven delivery of integrations between vendor systems and payroll and experience migrating legacy platforms (PeopleSoft) to cloud with strong data controls.
- Experience managing large vendor ecosystems and leading influence across matrixed organizations.
- Experience defining governance for agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models and strong understanding of responsible AI risk, controls, and resiliency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and tool/function-calling backends for agentic or conversational interfaces.
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted development tools in approved enterprise contexts.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and GitOps-based deployment on AWS.
- Familiarity with Global Mobility platforms (e.g., Sirva) and expatriate payroll/business travel/tax models (e.g., KPMG).
- Experience modernizing enterprise integrations using API-led and event-driven patterns, interface test automation, and observability.
- Executive-level communication and experience influencing senior executives.
