The position leads cross-functional design efforts—research, prototyping (including vibe coding and AI-assisted tools), and production handoff—to accelerate drug discovery and improve patient outcomes.

Role
Senior UX Designer on the AWS Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team focused on designing AI-native, agentic experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role drives design strategy, defines AI agent personas and behavioral contracts, and ensures AI-assisted experiences are transparent, trustworthy, and aligned with scientific and regulatory constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives that define, constrain, and validate AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact for healthcare and life sciences applications.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers to identify opportunities, resolve product strategy gaps, and design interoperational experiences.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documentation tailored to scientific users.
- Define AI agent personas, responsibilities, boundaries, escalation behavior, citation and confidence requirements.
- Design for multiple personas (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) and account for happy paths, edge cases, error states, and high-risk situations.
- Ensure AI agents assist with guidance, literature-based reasoning, and synthesis without replacing professional judgment.
- Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, with future transition to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
- Accelerate delivery using vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools to create functional prototypes demonstrating complex scientific workflows.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
- Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment through regular syncs.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing UX for complex workflows.
