The role focuses on designing and validating AI agent behavior, driving design strategy, prototyping complex scientific workflows, and collaborating closely with product, engineering, and research teams.

Role

Senior UX Designer on the AWS Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team who will define and lead AI-native product experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role centers on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact, ensuring transparency, trustworthiness, and scientific rigor in AI-assisted workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design initiatives that define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, escalation behavior, citation and confidence requirements.
  • Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documents.
  • Design for multiple user personas (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) and handle happy paths, edge cases, and high-risk situations.
  • Ensure AI-assisted experiences provide guidance and literature-based reasoning without substituting professional judgment.
  • Leverage and evolve design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
  • Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping to produce functional prototypes demonstrating complex scientific workflows.
  • Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to surface workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
  • Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment through regular syncs and tracking.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience.
  • Available online portfolio.
  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and prototyping using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
  • Experience designing complex workflows.

Context

  • Work is focused on regulated healthcare and life sciences domains requiring scientific accuracy, citations, and governance for AI features.
  • Team builds scaled, agentic AI solutions for computational biology, drug discovery workflows (DBTL), and clinical decision support.

  • Compensation ranges are listed per location in the posting; package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs) in addition to base salary.
