Role
Amazon Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) is hiring a Senior UX Designer to drive strategy and design for AI-native experiences in healthcare and life sciences. The role centers on designing, constraining, and validating agent behavior as a core UX artifact and delivering prototypes and specifications that support scientific workflows while maintaining trust, transparency, and regulatory rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives that define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, responsibilities, boundaries, escalation behavior, citation requirements, and confidence levels.
- Identify product opportunities and resolve strategy gaps to build interoperable experiences for computational biologists, bench scientists, clinicians, and healthcare administrators.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and documentation that advocate for scientific and clinical user needs.
- Design for multiple personas and technical skill levels, covering happy paths, edge cases, error states, and high-risk situations where AI might mislead users.
- Ensure AI agents assist users with guidance, literature-based reasoning, and synthesis without replacing professional judgment.
- Use and evolve existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns, scientific visualizations, and terminology.
- Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools to create functional prototypes demonstrating complex scientific workflows.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
- Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment via regular syncs and tracking documentation.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows for specialized user groups.

- Work involves close collaboration with product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers to accelerate drug discovery and improve patient outcomes.

- Sunnyvale, CA: 156400.00 - 211600.00 USD annually
- New York, NY: 155400.00 - 210300.00 USD annually
- Seattle, WA: 137800.00 - 186400.00 USD annually
- Total compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs); final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
