Sr. UX Designer, AWS Applied AI Solutions

Role

The Senior UX Designer will lead design strategy and execution for AI-native experiences in healthcare and life sciences, focusing on defining, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior. This role partners with product managers, researchers, engineers, and scientists to craft interfaces and workflows that accelerate scientific discovery while maintaining trust, transparency, and regulatory rigor.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design initiatives emphasizing AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, and escalation behaviors.
• Craft and validate long-term design strategies using customer research, prototyping, and proposal documentation.
• Create prototypes (including vibe-coding and AI-assisted prototypes) that demonstrate complex scientific workflows and edge-case handling.
• Design for multiple user personas (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) and ensure experiences handle happy paths, error states, and high-risk scenarios.
• Ensure AI-assisted experiences are transparent, cite sources, explain reasoning, and support human judgment rather than replace it.
• Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and develop domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
• Conduct ethnographic and user research with scientists and clinicians to inform design decisions and trust requirements.
• Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment through regular syncs and documentation.

Qualifications

Basic

• 8+ years of design experience.
• Available online portfolio.
• Experience with design tools and front-end prototyping: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.

Preferred

• Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
• Experience designing complex workflows.

You will join AWS Applied AI Solutions building scaled, agentic AI applications for life sciences and healthcare users who require high precision and trust. The team focuses on enabling researchers and clinicians to accelerate the design-build-test-learn cycle in regulated environments through AI-assisted experiences.

• Sunnyvale, CA: 156,400 - 211,600 USD annually
• New York, NY: 155,400 - 210,300 USD annually
• Seattle, WA: 137,800 - 186,400 USD annually
