About the Role

Senior UX Designer on AWS Applied AI Solutions' Healthcare & Life Sciences team, focused on designing AI-native product experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. Lead strategy and design of AI agent behavior, create prototypes, conduct user research, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure trustworthy, transparent AI-assisted workflows.

Job Description

Role

Join Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team as a Senior UX Designer to lead strategy and design for AI-native experiences that serve scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. You will focus on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact while ensuring transparency, trust, and regulatory awareness in scientific and clinical contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design initiatives defining AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, boundaries, and escalation behavior.
  • Craft and validate long-term design strategies via customer research, prototyping, and proposal documentation.
  • Design for multiple personas across technical expertise levels, addressing happy paths, edge cases, and high-risk scenarios.
  • Ensure AI-assisted experiences cite sources, explain reasoning, and support professional judgment rather than replace it.
  • Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
  • Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping to produce functional prototypes of complex scientific workflows.
  • Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
  • Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment through documentation and regular syncs.

Day-to-day

  • Prototype complex scientific workflows and iterate based on research and stakeholder feedback.
  • Define and document AI agent responsibilities, confidence thresholds, citation needs, and escalation paths.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, UX researchers, engineers, and scientists to drive design decisions and execution.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience.
  • Available online portfolio.
  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Prototyping experience in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Ajax.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Scrum/Agile methods to visual or UX design processes.
  • Experience designing complex workflows, particularly for technical or regulated domains.

Tools & Systems

  • Design tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Front-end prototyping: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax
  • Design systems: Trans Am (current), RAD (future)
  • Platform context: AWS Applied AI Solutions

Impact & Context

This role focuses on creating AI-assisted experiences that democratize complex scientific workflows, accelerate the design-build-test-learn cycle in drug discovery, and maintain rigorous standards for accuracy, trust, and regulatory compliance.
