Explicitly mentions vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools to rapidly create functional prototypes for complex scientific workflows.

About the Role

Senior UX Designer role focused on creating AI-native, trustworthy product experiences for healthcare and life sciences users. Lead design of agent behavior, prototyping, and research to accelerate scientific discovery and improve patient outcomes.

Job Description

Role

Amazon Applied AI Solutions (Healthcare & Life Sciences) is hiring a Senior UX Designer to define strategy and design direction for AI-native product experiences that serve scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role centers on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior, prototyping complex scientific workflows, and ensuring AI-assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, and grounded in human needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional design initiatives with product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers.
  • Define AI agent personas and behavioral contracts (roles, responsibilities, boundaries, escalation behavior).
  • Craft and validate long-term design strategies via customer research, prototyping, and proposals.
  • Design for multiple user personas (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) and for both happy-path and edge cases, including high-risk situations.
  • Ensure AI agents provide guidance, literature-based reasoning, citations, and explainability rather than replacing professional judgment.
  • Leverage and extend design systems (Trans Am; transitioning to RAD) and build domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
  • Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools to produce functional prototypes of complex workflows.
  • Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientific and clinical users to capture workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
  • Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications and maintain alignment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience.
  • Available online portfolio.
  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Experience prototyping with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Ajax.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows.

Team & Context

  • The team builds AI-assisted solutions for computational biologists, bench scientists, clinicians, and healthcare administrators, focusing on precision, trust, transparency, and regulatory rigor.
  • Work emphasizes integrating agentic AI into scaled applications to democratize scientific workflows and accelerate the design-build-test-learn (DBTL) cycle in drug discovery.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranges provided by location (see Locations & Salary). Compensation package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription), Basic Life & AD&D insurance, optional supplemental life plans, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), mental health support, medical advice line, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
