Role
Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) is hiring a Senior UX Designer to shape AI-native product experiences for Healthcare and Life Sciences. The role focuses on strategy, interaction design, and defining/validating AI agent behavior for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives to define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, escalation behavior, and transparency requirements.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documents targeted at scientific and clinical users.
- Design for multiple personas and complex workflows, addressing happy-path and edge-case/error states, especially in high-risk scientific or clinical contexts.
- Ensure AI-assisted experiences cite sources, explain reasoning, and support human judgment while maintaining scientific rigor and regulatory compliance.
- Leverage and evolve existing design systems (Trans Am, transition to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns, scientific visualizations, and terminology.
- Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping to create functional prototypes that demonstrate complex scientific workflows.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians and partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and prototyping using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows.
Team and Context
The AAIS team builds scaled AI-assisted solutions for computational biologists, bench scientists, clinicians, and healthcare administrators. Work focuses on integrating agentic AI into product experiences that accelerate scientific discovery (DBTL cycles) while preserving precision, trust, and transparency required in regulated environments.
Compensation & Benefits (high level)
- Location-based base salary ranges listed: Sunnyvale, CA: 156,400 - 211,600 USD; New York, NY: 155,400 - 210,300 USD; Seattle, WA: 137,800 - 186,400 USD (annual).
- Package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
