Job Description
Role
Senior UX Designer on the Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team, responsible for shaping AI-native product experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role focuses on designing, constraining, and validating agent behavior as a core UX artifact while ensuring transparency, trust, and scientific rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives that define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, boundaries, escalation behavior, citation and reasoning requirements, and confidence communication.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and design proposals that advocate for scientific and clinical users.
- Create prototypes (including vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping) that demonstrate complex scientific workflows and translate prototypes into production-ready specifications in partnership with engineering and science teams.
- Design for multiple user personas across technical skill levels, addressing happy paths, edge cases, error states, and high-risk situations where misleading AI behavior could compromise integrity.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
- Leverage and evolve design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and design domain-specific patterns, scientific visualizations, and terminology.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers; maintain alignment through regular syncs and feature tracking documentation.
Requirements
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio showcasing relevant work.
- Experience with design tools and prototyping technologies, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Ajax.
- Strong skills in user research, prototyping, design strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Sensitivity to regulatory and scientific rigor: design AI-assisted experiences that cite sources, explain reasoning, and support professional judgment rather than replace it.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows for technical or scientific users.
Team Context
The team builds scaled AI-assisted solutions for life sciences and healthcare that prioritize precision, transparency, and trust. Products target computational biologists, bench scientists, clinicians, and healthcare administrators and aim to accelerate scientific discovery while meeting regulated standards.
