Lead design strategy and cross-functional initiatives to create trustworthy, transparent AI agent behaviors and prototypes that accelerate scientific discovery and improve patient care.

Job Description

Role

Senior UX Designer on the Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team responsible for shaping AI-native product experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role focuses on defining AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact, ensuring transparency, trustworthiness, and scientific rigor while collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design initiatives to define, constrain, and validate AI agent behavior, including personas, behavioral contracts, escalation rules, citation and confidence requirements.
  • Design for multiple user personas across varying technical expertise (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) and address both happy-path and edge-case/high-risk scenarios.
  • Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and advocacy documents.
  • Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
  • Create prototypes and accelerate delivery using vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools; translate prototypes into production-ready specifications in partnership with engineering and science teams.
  • Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and design domain-specific patterns, scientific visualizations, and terminology for scientific users.
  • Ensure AI-assisted experiences support user judgment, cite sources, explain reasoning, and meet regulatory and scientific accuracy expectations.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience.
  • Available online portfolio.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
  • Experience designing complex workflows and domain-specific user experiences.

Context

The role sits within AAIS building scaled, agentic-AI solutions for healthcare and life sciences, emphasizing precision, trust, and transparency to support scientific workflows such as accelerating the design-build-test-learn (DBTL) cycle in drug discovery.

Compensation & Benefits (summary)

Location-based base salary ranges are published; total Amazon package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), plus comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
