Senior UX Designer for Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions Healthcare & Life Sciences team, responsible for designing AI-native, trustworthy agent experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. Lead cross-functional design initiatives from research and prototyping through production, with emphasis on AI agent behavior, transparency, and domain-specific scientific workflows.

Role
Senior UX Designer on the AWS Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) Healthcare & Life Sciences team. Design AI-native product experiences and define agent behavior, personas, and behavioral contracts to support scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. Lead strategy, prototyping, validation, and handoff of AI-assisted workflows with emphasis on trust, transparency, and scientific rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives focused on constraining, validating, and documenting AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies via customer research, prototyping, and design proposals.
- Define AI agent personas, responsibilities, boundaries, escalation behavior, citation and confidence requirements.
- Design for multiple user personas (bench scientists, computational biologists, clinicians) including happy paths and high-risk edge cases.
- Ensure AI-assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, explainable, and supportive of professional judgment.
- Use and extend existing design systems (Trans Am; planned transition to RAD) and create domain-specific visualizations and terminology.
- Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping to create functional prototypes of complex scientific workflows.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production-ready specifications.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows.
Team Context
Work on products that serve computational biologists, bench scientists, clinicians, and healthcare administrators. Focus is on AI-assisted workflows that accelerate drug discovery and maintain regulatory and scientific standards.
Compensation & Benefits
- Location-based base salary ranges are listed for Sunnyvale, CA; New York, NY; and Seattle, WA (see posting). Final compensation includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
