Job Description
Role
Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) Healthcare & Life Sciences team seeks a Senior UX Designer to define strategy and design direction for AI-native product experiences for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. The role focuses on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact and delivering production-ready specifications in partnership with product, engineering, and science teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives that define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, escalation behavior, citation and confidence requirements, and safety boundaries.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documentation to advocate for scientific and clinical user needs.
- Design for multiple user personas across technical expertise levels and for both happy-path and edge-case/high-risk scenarios.
- Ensure AI-assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, and grounded in scientific rigor and regulatory constraints; design systems that support professional judgment rather than replace it.
- Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to surface workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements.
- Create functional prototypes—accelerating delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping tools—and translate prototypes into production-ready specifications with engineering and science partners.
- Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and innovate domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows for specialized users.
Team Context
The team builds scaled, AI-assisted solutions for life sciences and healthcare users who require exceptional precision, trust, and transparency. The work emphasizes integrating agentic AI into product experiences while meeting scientific and regulatory standards.
