Role
Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions (AAIS) seeks a Senior UX Designer to shape AI-native product experiences for healthcare and life sciences users. The role centers on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact and translating complex scientific workflows into usable, trustworthy interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives for AI-assisted healthcare and life sciences applications, collaborating with product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers.
- Define AI agent personas, behavioral contracts, escalation rules, citation and confidence requirements, and error-handling for high-risk scenarios.
- Craft and validate long-term design strategies via customer research, prototyping, and proposal documents that advocate for scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals.
- Design for multiple personas ranging from bench scientists to clinicians, including happy-path flows and edge cases that preserve scientific integrity.
- Ensure AI-assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, cite sources, explain reasoning, and support professional judgment rather than replace it.
- Leverage and extend existing design systems (Trans Am, transitioning to RAD) and create domain-specific patterns and scientific visualizations.
- Accelerate delivery through vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping to build functional prototypes demonstrating complex workflows.
- Conduct ethnographic and user research with scientific and clinical users and partner with engineering to produce production-ready specifications.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of design experience.
- Available online portfolio.
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying Scrum to visual or UX design processes.
- Experience designing complex workflows for specialized users.
Team and Context
- Work within AAIS building solutions that integrate agentic AI to support scientific discovery, drug discovery DBTL cycles, and healthcare delivery at scale.
- Focus on precision, trust, transparency, and regulatory context required by scientific and clinical users.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary ranges provided per location (see Locations & Salary).
