Staff Developer Advocacy Engineer | US | Remote

Role

Grafana Labs seeks a Staff Developer Advocacy Engineer (US, remote) to build and maintain the open-source Interactive Learning Plugin and its learning content. You will ship production features that improve onboarding, progress tracking, contribution workflows, and observability for in-product learning inside Grafana.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and ship features for the Interactive Learning Plugin that make learning experiences obvious, smooth, and scalable.
• Improve end-to-end learner experience from onboarding to completion, including trustworthy progress and completion tracking.
• Enable contribution and authoring workflows (especially for non-engineers) so many contributors can safely create and iterate on content.
• Instrument learning flows with metrics, logs, and traces to surface what’s working and where learners get stuck.
• Treat observability as a product principle: create fast feedback loops and visibility into production and real user experiences.
• Ship quickly using AI-driven development workflows (agent-based tooling such as Claude Code or Cursor) while applying strong engineering judgment, testing, and review.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and take end-to-end ownership of software in production.
• Produce clear documentation, design notes, and PR descriptions; occasionally demo features or explain decisions to internal/external audiences (~20% communication work).

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with the ability to ship production-grade changes and reason about architecture, maintainability, and correctness.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and agentic workflows (e.g., daily or near-daily use of Claude Code or Cursor) and an ability to describe workflows for scoping, iterating, validating, and testing while managing security and correctness risks.
• Familiarity with Grafana and observability practices (dashboards, troubleshooting, monitoring workflows, on-call experience).
• Comfortable participating in on-call rotations and operating production services.
• Strong written communication skills for documentation and design notes.

Nice-to-have

• Meaningful open source contribution or maintainer experience.
• Full-stack experience; strong frontend-only or backend-only backgrounds are welcome.
• TypeScript and/or Go.
• Kubernetes familiarity.
• Experience with observability ecosystem: Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, OpenTelemetry.

Compensation & Benefits

• US base salary range: $174,986 - $209,983 (country-specific ranges apply).
