Role
Google Labs is seeking a Staff Interaction Designer to envision and build intuitive, AI-first multimodal experiences for early-stage products. You will craft user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity visual designs, and rapid prototypes that communicate key ideas and validate concepts before engineering investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate in a changing, exploratory environment and drive high-quality design from concept through iteration and execution.
- Build early-stage products, gather user insights, and continuously explore, pivot, learn, and iterate.
- Develop wireframes, high-fidelity visual designs, and rapid/functional prototypes to communicate user journeys and decision points.
- Explore AI-first interactions and multimodal capabilities to showcase novel user experiences and drive adoption of Google AI.
- Collaborate closely with UX researchers, product managers, engineers, and other design partners to evolve Google’s design language and inform product direction.
Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
- Experience with prompting generative AI models and creating generative media with images and video.
- Portfolio, website, or relevant work links included with resume or application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12 years of experience in product design or UX.
- 4 years of experience leading design projects and 3 years working with executive leaders.
- Functional prototyping skills, explicitly including vibe coding, to test functional ideas before committing engineering resources.
- Hybrid visual and interaction design skills to design end-to-end experiences.
Compensation & Location
- US base salary range: $178,000 - $265,000 (base only) plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Specific pay depends on role, level, and location.
- Preferred work locations to indicate when applying: Mountain View, CA; New York, NY; Seattle, WA.
