Role
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Agent Platform team, you will build tools and systems that accelerate product engineers’ ability to iterate on the Replit Agent experience and directly improve the core Agent. The role spans systems engineering, developer experience, and product engineering across frontend, backend, and Linux systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Build high-throughput backend applications and services (e.g., streaming chat between user and agent).
- Design a collaborative “Multiplayer Computer” enabling humans and AI agents to work together on shared shells, filesystems, and state in real time and conflict-free.
- Develop infrastructure (frontend & backend) that empowers product engineers to rapidly ship user experiences.
- Design and implement durable interfaces between the Agent and internal/external agentic systems (MCP).
- Lead end-to-end efforts with strong product and systems focus.
Requirements
Required
- 8+ years professional experience building backend services, systems, and platforms.
- Strong systems engineering and product sensibility; ability to ship incrementally and value simplicity.
- Self-directed, autonomous, and collaborative with a sense of shared ownership.
Preferred
- Experience across the full stack.
- Experience building AI-powered tooling or products.
- Experience with collaborative editing technologies such as Operational Transforms (OT), CRDTs, or deep knowledge of Git.
- Experience with event sourcing systems.

Location & Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in the Foster City, CA office with an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation range: $250,000 - $365,000 (USD).
