Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML, Jigsaw

Role

Staff Software Engineer, AI/ML on Jigsaw’s team at Google. Lead the development of applied AI concepts, drive rapid prototyping and proofs-of-concept, and guide technical transitions for replication while owning the technical narrative and demos.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development life cycle for applied AI projects: exploration, fluid prototyping, proofs-of-concept, and transition for replication.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering experimentation and engineering excellence.
• Stay current with AI capabilities and set best practices for the team.
• Collaborate with researchers, designers, product managers, and external partners to align technical solutions with human needs.
• Prepare demos, technical documentation, and presentations to communicate technical narratives to leadership and partners.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• 5 years of experience with one or more areas such as rapid prototyping, AI, ML infrastructure, or other ML specializations.
• 5 years of experience with ML design and ML infrastructure (examples include model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine-tuning).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the latest AI capabilities and vibe coding tools.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver proofs-of-concept or technical prototypes.
• Proven technical leadership on interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams, aligning technical priorities with outcomes.
• Strong communication skills, able to translate technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders.
• Interest in intersections of technology and social systems, such as governance and platform health.

Compensation (excerpt)

• US base salary range: $197,000 - $291,000 (base only; additional bonus, equity, and benefits possible).
