Staff Software Engineer on Google AI Studio / Gemini API team focused on building the Android client and production infrastructure that enables third-party developers to leverage Gemini models and generative AI capabilities. The role sits at the intersection of mobile engineering and AI-driven developer products and includes technical leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of the Google AI Studio Android app to enable 3rd-party developers to leverage Gemini models.
- Design and build highly available, low-latency online serving systems and production-scale features to productize a generative AI technical stack.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX, partners, and other engineering teams to advance LLM techniques and realize real-world product impact.
- Define engineering practices, build team culture, and lead fast-paced execution across cross-functional projects.
- Understand developer needs for Large Language Model (LLM)-based applications and support the developer community around Google’s ML technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience with Android application development.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
- Experience with Large Language Models, NLP, or Generative AI.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 3 years in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3 years working in a complex, matrixed organization on cross-functional or cross-business projects.
Compensation & Location
- US base salary range for this full-time position: $207,000 - $300,000 (base only). Additional compensation includes bonus, equity, and benefits.
