Staff Technical Program Manager, ML/AI Platform
Explicitly calls for vibe coding and using AI coding assistants to rapidly prototype scripts, dashboards, and internal tools to validate value early.
About the Role
Staff Technical Program Manager leading cross-engineering ML/AI platform initiatives at Pinterest, responsible for scoping, driving, and delivering strategic GenAI and agent platform programs while operationalizing AI-first program execution and governance. The role focuses on reducing friction through AI-augmented tooling, ensuring safety-by-design, and aligning cross-functional teams to measurable outcomes.
Job Description
Role
Pinterest is hiring a Staff Technical Program Manager to lead high-impact, cross-engineering initiatives for the ML/AI Platform, GenAI infrastructure, and Agent Platform. You will own ambiguous opportunities end-to-end, translate strategy into execution, and institutionalize scalable program management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic ML/AI platform programs from discovery through measurable delivery across multiple engineering orgs.
- Operate with an AI-first execution mindset: use GenAI to produce AI-assisted drafts of program artifacts and modernize high-toil workflows (intake triage, status synthesis, risk/dependency tracking).
- Prototype AI-augmented tools and lightweight workflows using AI coding assistants to improve decision-making and reduce friction (dashboards, analysis, process helpers, internal tooling) via a vibe coding approach.
- Apply safety-by-design AI governance: handle sensitive data appropriately, validate AI outputs, document assumptions and limitations, and ensure compliance before broader adoption.
- Drive complex technical decisions across teams by partnering with ML Platform, Agent Platform (Helix), Core Infra, Ads, and other domain owners.
- Convert strategic priorities into milestone-driven execution plans and influence roadmaps during planning cycles.
- Build scalable processes, frameworks, and tooling that improve organizational execution at scale.
- Communicate transparently across Engineering, ML Research, Data Science, Product, Security, Legal, and executive stakeholders.
- Own program outcomes end-to-end with rigorous planning, proactive risk mitigation, and relentless follow-through.
Qualifications / Requirements
- 8+ years of TPM or related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Proven track record delivering complex, multi-year initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams and organizations.
- Demonstrated AI-first execution mindset, including using GenAI to accelerate planning, operations, and stakeholder communications.
- Experience designing workflows and building low-toil mechanisms: prompting, vibe coding lightweight scripts/tools, dashboards, and agent-driven improvements.
- Knowledgeable in AI governance practices (risk assessment, sensitive data handling, model output validation, auditability).
- Working understanding of Machine Learning, GenAI, LLM serving/inference, AI Agent architectures, DevOps, and systems engineering sufficient to engage technical teams and drive tradeoffs.
- Strong strategic vision, executive influence, analytical problem-solving, and ability to institutionalize processes at scale.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse technical and executive audiences.
Team & Context
- The Platform TPM team governs Infrastructure, Infra Finance, Data Engineering, Security, Compliance, and cloud budget management.
- You will partner with ML Platform (MLP), Agent Platform (Helix), Core Infra, Ads, ML Research, Data Science, Product, Security, and Legal.
Work Model & Relocation
- This position is remote within the country and will require in-person collaboration 1–2 times every 6 months. It can be located anywhere in the country.
- This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
