Technical Product Engineer
Uses AI tools like Claude Code for quick prototyping and testing; focused on rapid UX prototyping and front-end migration work.
About the Role
Technical Product Engineer who combines product ownership, UX engineering, and front-end development to define and deliver a Remote Patient Monitoring platform. Owns end-to-end user experience, runs sprint ceremonies, writes and reviews front-end code, and provides technical direction to a team shipping clinician and patient-facing applications.
Job Description
Role
The Technical Product Engineer sits at the intersection of product ownership, UX engineering, front-end development, and engineering leadership for a Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) platform. You will define and prioritize features, own UX quality end-to-end, prototype and implement front-end components, and lead a team of front-end and full-stack engineers to deliver clinical and patient-facing experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Team & Sprint Leadership
- Facilitate sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives for a front-end and full-stack engineering team.
- Own the sprint backlog, break epics into sprint-ready stories, size work with the team, and track delivery against commitments.
- Act as primary point of contact between engineering, clinical operations, and leadership for product and sprint status.
- Identify and remove blockers, and provide technical direction and day-to-day guidance on implementation approach, code quality, and UX standards.
Product Ownership
- Define, prioritize, and own features for clinical staff (web dashboard) and patients (mobile app).
- Write user stories, acceptance criteria, and UX specifications grounded in clinical workflows (RPM, CCM, AWV, TCM, RTM).
- Translate business, clinical, and compliance requirements into actionable technical specifications.
- Conduct user research and usability reviews with care team staff and patients to validate decisions.
UX Engineering
- Maintain and enforce the component library across the staff web dashboard and patient mobile app (PrimeNG, Bootstrap 5, Angular 19; React Native/Expo).
- Prototype new interactions in code or design tools (Figma or equivalent) and hand off or implement production-ready components.
- Define and resolve UX debt and accessibility gaps (WCAG 2.1 AA) across platforms.
Front-End Development
- Lead migration of the patient mobile app from Ionic 5/Angular to React Native with Expo; establish component and navigation patterns and guide engineers through the transition.
- Write and review React Native screens and TypeScript/Angular components covering clinical surveys, vitals flows, medication tracking, consent, device management, and messaging.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with backend engineers maintaining a Python 3 / AWS Lambda / SQLAlchemy / PostgreSQL API; participate in API design discussions.
- Partner with DevOps/infrastructure on front-end deployments (CloudFront, Jenkins CI/CD, Angular and Expo/EAS build pipelines).
- Coordinate with QA on unit tests and assess end-to-end test coverage for shipped features.
Requirements
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience running engineering sprints and owning delivery as a tech lead, scrum master, or senior IC.
- Proven ability to write clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Strong written and verbal communication for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience conducting usability research and applying findings to product decisions.
- Familiarity applying accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) at the component level.
- Front-end tech: React Native with Expo (EAS builds, push notifications, managed/bare workflows), TypeScript, HTML/SCSS, component libraries.
- Comfortable reading and writing typed code (TypeScript) and reading Python 3 Lambda handlers.
- Git-based workflows and CI/CD awareness.
- Experience using AI tools like Claude Code for prototyping.
Nice to Haves
- Healthcare/clinical workflow experience (RPM, CCM, EHR integrations, HIPAA-aware design).
- Ionic Framework experience (existing mobile codebase migration context).
- GraphQL client experience (Apollo Client, AWS Amplify/AppSync).
- Real-time UI experience (Twilio, WebRTC).
- Chart.js or similar for data visualization.
- PDF generation (Puppeteer, PDFKit).
- BDD/Gherkin-style testing (Behave, Cucumber).
- Familiarity with FHIR data models.
Location & Compensation
- Work location: This position is 100% on-site at the company’s office in Santa Ana, CA. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
- Total compensation: $120,000 – $160,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
How You’ll Succeed
You’ll thrive if you can run sprint planning, produce UX specs, review React Native PRs, and provide clear status updates to leadership within a single day; lead teams without formal HR authority; and validate UX decisions with real user data.
