About the Role
YouTube is hiring an Interaction/UX Designer for the Watch team to design and prototype the primary video viewing experience across phones, tablets, and web. The role focuses on crafting user-centered flows, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and maintaining design system quality while partnering with cross-functional teams to drive product impact.
Job Description
Role
As an Interaction Designer on YouTube’s Watch team, you will design the core viewing experience across phones, tablets, and web. You’ll use user-centered design methods to create user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes, contribute to and evolve design systems, and partner closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, and other designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities and explore new product innovations that expand the Watch system by surfacing emerging user needs.
- Develop user experience strategy and lead cross-functional stakeholders to land solutions that drive product impact.
- Define sustainable approaches to solve difficult problems while ensuring high design quality and longevity across product paths.
- Communicate design rationale and storytelling to present design positions and influence partners.
- Foster team success by creating a welcoming environment, helping teammates, and coaching other designers.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 4 years of interaction design experience in product or UX design.
- Include a portfolio, website, or relevant work links in your resume.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- ~2 years working in a cross-functional organization.
- ~1 year leading design projects.
- Experience building and contributing to a design system for cross-platform consistency and quality.
- Experience with Figma, motion design, and vibe coding; ability to produce user flows, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and storytelling skills; ability to present design work to varied audiences.
Team & Scope
The Watch team designs YouTube’s primary viewing surfaces and journeys. The role involves collaboration across UX disciplines (designers, researchers, writers), product management, and engineering to create intuitive experiences for billions of users.
Compensation
- US base salary range: $129,000 - $185,000 (base only). Additional compensation may include bonus, equity, and benefits. Specific pay varies by role level, location, skills, and experience.
