Role
DeepMind is hiring a UX Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term contract to join the AI User Experience (AIUX) team. You will drive technical strategy and execution, partner with UX designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers, and deliver high-fidelity prototypes and production front-ends that shape AI product experiences across screens and devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject-matter expert, establishing best practices and pushing browser, device, and AI capabilities.
- Act as a cross-functional liaison to align UX, research, product, and engineering stakeholders.
- Architect and implement versatile front-end solutions to solve complex problems and answer research questions.
- Write production-quality code and deliver substantial portions of projects.
- Design and develop human-centered, user-facing front-ends and high-fidelity prototypes to support user studies through to product release.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in front-end development, technical UX design, or prototyping.
- Experience developing applications across platforms (web, iOS, Android, component design, XR).
- Understanding of core web technologies (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modern web standards and technologies (JS/ES6, HTML5, CSS, REST, mobile web).
- Experience with React, Lit, Angular, or similar frameworks.
- Experience leading UI design and technical framework implementation.
- Experience with “vibe coding” approaches and toolkits, and familiarity with prompt engineering best practices.
- Understanding of how to apply AI to accelerate UX and engineering workflows.
Contract, Location & Compensation
- This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
- Applicants may indicate a preferred working location: New York, NY, USA or London, UK.
- For United States applicants the posted US base salary range is $159,000–$231,000 (base only); actual pay depends on location, skills, experience, and other factors. Compensation may include bonus, equity, and benefits.
