Web Developer

Role

CometChat is hiring a Website Engineer to own and improve the company marketing website as a product. You will be responsible for the web layer end-to-end — architecture, performance, technical SEO, CMS structure, UX quality, and fast landing page delivery in support of growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the marketing website; build pages, components, and content structures.
• Improve site performance and Core Web Vitals; proactively identify UX and performance improvements.
• Ensure technical SEO hygiene: schema, crawlability, sitemaps, canonical structure, redirects, and URL management.
• Maintain clean CMS models and scalable content architecture; implement structured data (JSON-LD).
• Work closely with marketing to ship landing pages quickly and reliably.
• Own architecture decisions, review quality, tests, performance, and security for the web product.

Requirements

Must have

• 2–4 years of production frontend experience.
• Experience with component-based frameworks (Svelte preferred; React also used).
• Experience integrating a headless CMS and working with headless architecture.
• Strong JavaScript fundamentals.
• Understanding of technical SEO (schema markup, Core Web Vitals, structured internal linking, SSR vs CSR implications).
• Experience shipping and maintaining live production websites.
• Comfortable working independently and owning technical decisions.

Good to have

• Experience with Storyblok.
• Experience with marketing or content-heavy sites.
• Familiarity with analytics implementation.
• Basic understanding of accessibility best practices.

Tech & Approach

• Primary technologies referenced: Svelte, React, Storyblok, headless architecture, JSON-LD, JavaScript.
• The team embraces an “AI-native” workflow where agentic tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) generate code; engineers are expected to steer agents, validate outputs, and debug generated code.

• Role is full-time and based in CometChat’s Chennai, Tamil Nadu office.
• This position sits within the marketing team and has clear ownership and impact on growth-focused web infrastructure.
