Working Student: LCA & Sustainability in BIM (m/f/d)
Explicitly calls for a vibe coding mindset — fast prototyping, AI-assisted development, and use of LLMs/AI agents.
About the Role
Working student role focused on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and sustainability within Building Information Modeling (BIM). You'll run LCAs for buildings, turn real-world materials/energy data into insights, and build AI-assisted automation and fast prototypes (Python, LLMs) while working up to 20 hours/week fully remotely.
Job Description
Role
Working Student (m/f/d) — LCA & Sustainability in BIM. Support the development of integrated LCA workflows inside a BIM platform by running assessments, transforming messy real-world data into usable sustainability insights, and building AI-assisted automation and prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
- Run and support Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for buildings, primarily for the German building and construction industry
- Clean, interpret, and transform materials, energy, and emissions data into clear sustainability insights and reports
- Build scrappy, fast prototypes to automate LCA workflows using AI, LLMs, and modern tools
- Use LLMs, AI agents, and APIs to speed up analysis, reporting, and internal processes
- Iterate quickly with a “vibe coding” mindset: prototype, test, break, and improve
- Collaborate closely with a small, cross-functional team and communicate results via dashboards and presentations
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or holding a master’s degree related to sustainable development of the built environment
- Solid understanding of architectural design and LCA and how they interact
- Hands-on experience with AI / LLMs (prompting, APIs, automations)
- Ability to code (ideally Python) and use programming to solve practical problems
- Comfortable with fast prototyping, independent work, and systems thinking
Preferred / Bonus
- Experience with LCA tools and datasets such as One Click LCA, GaBi, or ecoinvent
Benefits
- Direct impact on product features used by architecture firms worldwide
- Steep learning curve working with engineers, sustainability experts, and product designers
- Flexible hours around university schedule (up to 20 hrs/week)
- Fully remote — work from wherever you study and live
- Flat hierarchies and open culture
- Opportunity for a permanent position after graduation for outstanding students
- Fair compensation and a collaborative team environment
