Tracks a USD-only, long-only stock/ETF portfolio from a transaction log or Ghostfolio export and generates a drawdown-focused brief with deterministic rebalance suggestions and optional fenced AI narration. It can also run a read-only Claude Desktop MCP addon for chatting with the portfolio using the same validated core and cached market data.
From the registry: Drawdown-first risk for your stock/ETF book — every number from a validated core, not the model.
$ uvx --from git+https://github.com/disin7c9/asset-management asset-management --book <your-transactions-file> --warmPlease install the `asset-management` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install uv** — Install uv so the MCP server can be launched with uvx. (https://docs.astral.sh/uv/)
Optional prerequisites:
- Prepare your portfolio transaction file — Create or export your portfolio file and point ASSET_BOOK to it. The server can also run against the bundled demo portfolio if ASSET_BOOK is omitted.
- Optional Tiingo API key — Create a free Tiingo API key to enable a secondary price source when Yahoo Finance throttles. (https://www.tiingo.com)
- Optional warm cache — Optionally warm the price cache before using offline mode. This is recommended if you plan to set ASSET_MCP_OFFLINE=1. Run: `uvx --from git+https://github.com/disin7c9/asset-management asset-management --book <your-transactions-file> --warm`
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `uvx`
- args: ["--from","https://github.com/disin7c9/asset-management/releases/download/v2.12.1/asset_management-2.12.1-py3-none-any.whl","asset-management-mcp"]
- optional environment variables:
- `ASSET_BOOK`: Path to your transaction log or Ghostfolio export. If omitted, the MCP server uses the bundled demo portfolio. (example: `<path-to-your-transactions.csv>`)
- `ASSET_TARGET`: Path to your target allocation CSV. Required for rebalance-related tools such as rebalance_check. (example: `<path-to-your-target.csv>`)
- `TIINGO_API_KEY`: Free Tiingo API key for secondary price-source fallback when Yahoo Finance throttles. (example: `<your-tiingo-api-key>`)
- `ASSET_CACHE_DIR`: Override the on-disk cache directory used for price data. (example: `<path-to-your-cache-directory>`)
- `ASSET_MCP_OFFLINE`: Set to 1 to disable all network fetches. Use only with an already-warmed cache; otherwise tools may return n/a. (example: `1`)
Note: The README provides a Claude Desktop example, but the canonical server shape is stdio. It also documents an equivalent local entry point (`asset-management-mcp` or `uv run python -m app.mcp_server`), but the pinned uvx release URL is the preferred portable install path.
