A self-hosted, read-only MCP server that connects Plaid-linked bank, credit card, loan, and brokerage accounts to an MCP client for natural-language finance queries. It exposes account, balance, transaction, recurring payment, liability, investment, and institution-status data without mutating any institution state.
From the registry: Self-hosted, read-only MCP server that connects your banks and investments via Plaid.
$ uvicorn link_helper:app --port 8765Please install the `personal-finance-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Python 3.11+** — Python 3.11 or newer is required to run the server. (https://www.python.org/downloads/)
- **Create a Plaid account** — Sign up for a Plaid account and choose the Trial plan. (https://dashboard.plaid.com/signup)
- **Enable Plaid products** — In Plaid Team Settings → Products, enable Transactions, Liabilities, and Investments.
- **Obtain Plaid API credentials** — In Plaid Team Settings → API, copy your client_id and production secret.
- **Link your bank accounts** — Run the local link helper once per bank to generate PLAID access tokens, then add each printed PLAID_TOKEN_* value to your environment. Run: `uvicorn link_helper:app --port 8765`
Canonical MCP server config (HTTP transport):
- url: `http://localhost:8000/mcp`
Note: The README provides a self-hosted HTTP MCP endpoint, started locally with `python server.py`, which serves at `/mcp`. Installation is from source: clone the repository, create a Python virtual environment, install `requirements.txt`, and populate env vars from `.env.example`. Required environment variables are PLAID_CLIENT_ID, PLAID_SECRET, and at least one PLAID_TOKEN_<BANK_NAME> access token generated via the link helper. The README recommends protecting any non-local deployment with an auth gate; no specific MCP auth header format is provided.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.PLAID_CLIENT_IDrequiredPlaid API client ID used to authenticate with PlaidPLAID_SECRETrequiredPlaid API secret used to authenticate with PlaidOpen-source SEC EDGAR toolkit — 11 tools, 7 prompts, every filing type.
